Greetings fellow explorers!

I’m Lorel Morrison, also known as Shippy the Explorer—a lifelong family historian, storyteller, and heritage traveler devoted to uncovering the powerful history of the Caribbean and Bahamian diaspora.

For more than 50 years, I have dedicated myself to researching family roots, preserving oral histories, and tracing the journeys that connect our people across oceans and generations. What began as a personal mission to document the legacy of the Giscombe family has grown into a wider calling: helping others reconnect with their own stories, ancestors, and cultural identity.

My path has taken me across continents—from the sunlit mountains of Jamaica to the misty highlands of Scotland, the historic streets of England, and the vast landscapes of Australia. Along the way, I’ve had the privilege of meeting relatives near and far, recording their memories, and gathering the living stories that history books often leave behind.

Why This Mission Matters

Too many families in the Caribbean diaspora carry histories that were scattered by migration, colonialism, slavery, and time. Names were changed. Records disappeared. Important stories were never written down.

I believe every family deserves to know where they come from.

When we rediscover our roots, we reclaim identity, pride, resilience, and belonging. Each conversation with an elder, each recovered document, each ancestral village found on a map becomes part of restoring what was nearly lost.

This mission is about more than genealogy—it is about honoring those who came before us and empowering those who come next.

Credentials & Experience

My work is built on decades of hands-on historical research, family interviews, travel-based investigation, and storytelling.

I am the author of several historical books and reports documenting Giscombe family history and lineage:

  • The Prism

  • Three Fathers in the Life of a Child

  • Going Down Under

Each book is a labor of love and a tribute to the generations whose courage and sacrifices shaped the present.

In addition to publishing, I share discoveries through video storytelling, interviews, and heritage journeys on my YouTube channel, Shippy the Explorer.

Media & Public Presence

Through books, online media, interviews, and speaking engagements, I bring Caribbean family history to life in a way that is engaging, human, and deeply personal.

My work highlights migration stories, family connections, cultural memory, and the extraordinary journeys of ordinary people whose lives deserve to be remembered.

Personal Origin Story

My journey began with a simple desire: to understand my family, where we came from, and how we became who we are.

That search became a lifelong adventure.

It led me into archives, across borders, into family homes, onto old roads, and into conversations that changed my life. I discovered that every relative carries a piece of the puzzle, every photograph has a whisper, and every journey home reveals something new.

What I treasure most are the moments that bring people together—a family reunion, an unexpected meeting abroad, or a forgotten memory suddenly restored.

Those moments remind me that family history is never only about the past.  â€‹It is about connection.
